BLOG – WEEK ONE – SKELETON MAN

We just finished reading the first chapter of Skeleton Man. The author hooked us into the story by using an interesting hook. This is an example of author’s craft. This author utilizes different strategies to intrigue the reader to continue reading.

Your task: Rewrite the beginning to Skeleton Man.

Your Introduction should be at least two paragraphs (4-5 sentences each paragraph!)

Remember: It's all about the HOOK!

  1. The girl waking up and realizing that her parents are not home. When in the bed, she starts to remember a story her father told her about a skeleton man. It began with a lazy Uncle who did not want to work, and his family had gone out hunting for food. While they were gone, he burnt himself and put his finger in his mouth and realized that it tasted pretty good, so he started out eating his finger and when he was done he had eaten his whole body and he was still hungry. Next he waited for the family to get home and ate them one by one when they got to the lodge. He had eaten everyone except a little girl, and she was down by the lake helping a rabbit that had fallen into the water. When she got close tot the lodge, she did not hear the laughter of her parents all was silent. Then her Uncle called her in but she was afraid something had happened to them so she ran away.
Back to reality, the girl saw a show of the mystery of the skeleton man called “Unexplained History”. One day the girl’s teacher realizes something strange about the girl, and some reports about it. Then the authorities show up at her house and tell her that they have found her great Uncle. The girl was kind of suspicious that that was not her uncle, but the facts prove that he was. So now the girl has to go and live with her “so called Uncle”.

  2. Have your parents ever gone out early in the morning and you just wake up to find out their not their? Did they leave a note? If they didn’t you may have had a felling of why or where are they. well if they have you may be able to relate to this story quite easily.

I’m not sure what’s going on, the house is quiet and no one is around. I’m not really concerned but I’m wondering why this would happen why would they leave me it doesn’t make much sense but maybe their just out on a trip and will be back soon, Yeah that’s it they’ll be back soon I just need to wait it out but what if I’m wrong?

  4. The Skelton Key

The narrator is a little girl and right now she is being forced to live with her uncle till her parents come back. But at the begging she was telling use the stories her dad use to tell her. I think the girl is independent but sacred and nervous at the same time, I think she’s independent because she wakes herself up and takes care of herself, I think she’s nervous cause everybody keeps asking about her parents police keep coming and social services came, and I think she scared because she’s home alone and her parents are missing.

Molly wakes up in the morning, runs down to the kitchen sitting on the chair looking suspiciously where her parents are.

They are usually up before she wakes up but I guess not. So molly is searching for her parents. She starts worrying that she hasn’t found them yet ! Molly starts to panic & scream

  6. It all started with a phone call. When I was younger my father told me a whole bunch of stories. The story he would tell me the most was a spooky story about a lazy skeleton man. The story was about a lazy uncle that sat around all day. One day while everyone was out at play or work he got hungry, since he was a lazy man he did not want to go find himself something to eat so instead he started burning bits and pieces of his fingers and eating it. He thought that it tasted good so he kept on eating until he had eaten all the flesh off his body. He was still hungry when he was done eating so he waited and waited until the rest of his family came home from their day at work or play. When they got back home they heard a noise from the back “cha-sha-cha”. They wanted to know where it was coming from so they found the lazy uncle and he ate them all, except one the little girl.

One night my parents didn’t come home so I stayed up and waited. When they didn’t come home people started getting suspicious, my teacher, my dads’ friend, and the lady at the front office. Well I don’t know who called the police, but when I got home from school there were a police and a social security worker at my house to question me. They talked to me and escorted me out my house. Through it all the only thing I knew was that my parents were coming back. The next day the social security worker came with a man she said was my uncle I looked at him and said I don’t know him but they both forced the fact that I knew him and he was my uncle.

  7. My dad had the best stories. Some of the stories that he told me his aunties told him when he was growing up. One of my favorites was the story about the skeleton monster; it’s a really creepy story. It’s about a man that burns his finger on the fire in the living room and then he licks its and he likes the taste of the burnt flesh, so he starts to eat just the flesh. But he wanted more so he burnt all of his hand and just ate the flesh right off of it. But he was still hungry and wanted more so he eventually burned all of the flesh off of his body and all that was left was his bones. But he still wanted more so he called all of his family into the living room and he killed them and burned all the flesh on their bodies and then ate it all, but he still wanted more. And his niece was the only one left but she was out in the field harvesting the crops and she had found an injured deer and had helped it by rapping its leg with a band aid, and had come in right after the uncle had finished the last body of his family. So then he tried to kill her but she was to fast for him so she ran away, and called the cops but by time they got there the crazy uncle was already gone and no where to be found.

  8. Footsteps on the stair

I’m not sure how to begin this story. For one thing I know that it’s still going on. You should never tell a story if it isn’t true. At least that’s what my friends have been telling me. I’m not even sure if I going to be alive to finish this story. Wait I hear something what is that noise? I put my ear up against the wall to hear the footstep. I’m talking to myself it is really quiet in here, should go check up stairs and see who is up there. I don’t see anyone up here so I went back downstairs as I was walking back down somebody grabbed me. When the man grabbed me I bit him and got loose. I ran out of the house and told everybody what happened to me. I was thinking to myself I taking this too far and I might be overacting with this whole situation. All I can say is some people overact to if they heard this kind of story I used to her from my mom. So here I am telling u my story.

  9. The skeleton man.
There is a man. He was not normal. He enjoyed eating the epidermis layer of the skin, in fact, he loved eating skin so much that he would have parties, and invite people just so he could eat your skin. I know what you are thinking, “what a stupid story, no way this is true.” But yes, it is. And so I continue with my story….this man had a party. He invited his family members. His family members’ thinking this is was going to fun, but the worst has yet to come. He says “come in family, don’t be afraid.” Poor stupid family…oh so sad, how they do not know what is coming. He is having a wonderful time with them, as one family member goes in the kitchen to finish cooking the turkey; she puts her hand in the oven to take out the turkey and ouch! She burned her self. He smells the epidermis layer as it burns. He can’t control himself. He says “band aids are in my bathroom, come with me. They go to the bathroom and he locks the door. He turns off the lights and gets closer…she starts the scream, but no one can hear her because the sound of the music in the party is too loud. Soon, he eats her, leaving the bones as a memory of her. How sad? But all he can think about is more food…she was the first victim.
Before you know it, he ate every single person at the party. He starts to think “what a remarkable evening.”
There is a girl; her parents went to the party, but never came back. She starts to wonder “have the gotten into a car crash? Have they go on a trip? Maybe they went to go visit family? Without me?
She starts to get used to the fact that her parents aren’t home. She makes her own meals, she goes to school by herself, and has family time…without her family. Soon, her school found out that her parents are not home so they say that they found a man who clams that she is her uncle. She has never met him in her life. How could she be my uncle? She thinks.
But he has proof that he is her uncle. She has to go home with him. What could happen?

  10. It was a cold Halloween night, and my dad always told me this story before I went to bed. It was about this guy chopping up his fingers and eating the flesh off it. My dad use to tell me “never tell a story unless you know how it’s going to end”. I don’t really if I am going stay here to tell you guys the end of this story. So let’s get to it.

One day their was a guy that was so hungry he started to cut his fingers off and cook the flesh on them and after he cooked them he ate them. After he was done eating his fingers he wanted more he was still hungry so he started his body up until he was bones. But! He was still hungry he had his parents come over and he ate them once they came threw the door chasseing them all over a finally he go them and ate them up. I always wonder why I never had night mares but who would no if I didn’t know?

  11. Skeleton Man is that a girl is trying to find a way to start off. I’m not sure were to being maybe how it all started. One night while I was sleep I was think about a story me dad told me it was about a skeleton monster that eat his own flesh. The story goes a little like this one day the lazy old uncle was waiting for his family to come back from getting food for them while he was fixing up the fire and he burned his finger real bad while he was sucking on his finger to cool it off he said “oh this tastes good.” The old uncle start to eat the cooked flesh and then he cooked his finger one by one in the pot. Then he cooked his toes one by one in the pot. Then he cooked his feet the left then the right foot in the pot. Then he cooked his arm the right then the left arm in the pot. Then he cooked his legs the left then the right leg in the pot. After he cooked and ate all his flesh in the pot all that was left was just the bones that made up his skeleton he was still hungry. He said to his self “I’m still I hope that my relatives came home soon.” Then his relative came home and one by one they came into the lodge was dark the only think that you see was the fire for cooking. This shadowy figure was behind the fire and the only thing you could hear was the sound of his bone rubbing against each other. Then a voice said “came in, my relatives.” The only one he didn’t eat was his niece who was helping a little bunny how fallen in the river were she plays. After a few days that she was alone a social service woman put her with uncle she didn’t even now about and she now that the man was not her uncle.

  12. Footsteps on the Stair

I’m not sure how to start this story. But I keep hearing noises; I think the 666 is here. I think the noise is footsteps on my stairs. It may just be the creepy nighttime creaking of this very old house. They keep saying I’m melodramatic & they never take me seriously. I didn’t notice my parents haven’t come home until Sunday. I should’ve heard my dad cheering & screaming because Sunday is his Football day, he is off work & he just watches football. But they told me they were just going to get groceries, they never came back. My mom is not exercising now; she should’ve been running by now. When I noticed all these things, I heard the doorbell ring, so I went to the door & there are these people here saying I have to stay with my great-uncle but I do not remember him at all. He is a complete stranger I told them but they think I just haven’t met him before.

  14. Rewrite the beginning to Skelton Man.
I wouldn’t keep switching time like how it goes to the story the all of a sudden to the reality. One night my dad told me a story called Skelton Man it was about this man who ate his own flesh and his family’s flesh, he had thought he’d eaten all of his family in till he herd a little girl in his back yard. It was his niece. She was rescuing a bunny rabbit. He was telling her to come in with her family but she didn’t fell that was right. He said come-on I wont hurt you; your parents are waiting for you. She ran away form him and she didn’t know where else to go. But then she ran in to the rabbit and the rabbit said ill help you. The rabbit knew that man was a creep. So she followed the rabbit.

  15. It was a wintery night when a little girl named Suzy was walking home from school because she had to finish a project. Suzy was walking down the side walk when she saw these head lights of a van. Next thing she knew she’s being pulled into the van with a wet cloth on her mouth. She’s been kidnapped. But that’s just the beginning of this story. When woke up, she realize that she had been chained to the wall. Suzy saw a shadow on the wall and it looked like it was eating something. It comes out and the things five fingers on his right hand had been bitten off! Then he takes his hood off. “It’s a skeleton!” I screamed. “You are right my dear.” The skeleton said in a crackly voice. “And do you know why?” asked the skeleton man. “No” answered the girl.
